CFPB

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the federal agency overseeing consumer financial products, including many manufactured-home loans.

Published May 31, 2026

The CFPB, or Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is the federal agency that oversees consumer financial products and services and enforces many federal consumer-finance laws. Its work includes mortgages and other home loans, which can include chattel loans used to finance manufactured homes.

For manufactured-home buyers and owners, the CFPB is relevant mainly on the financing side — things like loan disclosures, servicing, and unfair or deceptive practices. It is distinct from HUD, which administers the construction standard and housing programs, and from state agencies that regulate communities and lot tenancies.

The CFPB also publishes consumer education materials and accepts consumer complaints about financial products. This is general information, not legal or financial advice.
