Setup (installation)

The process of placing and securing a manufactured home on its site, including foundation, anchoring, and utility connections, under state standards.

Setup, or installation, is the process of placing and securing a manufactured home on its site. It typically includes preparing the foundation or support system, anchoring the home against wind and movement, joining multi-section homes, and connecting utilities.

Setup is heavily governed by standards. Many states adopt uniform installation rules, often administered by a single state agency, that specify how a home must be supported and secured. A proper setup is also frequently a precondition for other things — for example, being permanently affixed in a way that supports title retirement usually requires installation according to those rules.

Because installation standards are where the technical safety requirements live, setup is closely tied to a state's storm and anchoring rules. For how a specific state handles it, see that state's storm guide. This is general information, not legal advice.
