Common descriptions of a manufactured home's size by the number of factory-built sections joined together at the site.

Single-wide and double-wide are common ways of describing a manufactured home's size by how many factory-built sections it has. A single-wide is one section, transported and placed as a single unit. A double-wide is two sections joined together at the site to form a wider home; homes with three or more sections are sometimes called multi-section.
The number of sections affects setup: multi-section homes must be joined and sealed during installation, in addition to being anchored and connected to utilities. Section count can also factor into titling, since a multi-section home may have more than one certificate of title before any title retirement.
These are descriptive terms rather than legal categories — what governs a home's status is the HUD Code it was built to, not the number of sections. This is general information, not legal advice.
