The company that builds a manufactured home in a factory to the federal HUD Code, distinct from the dealer that sells it.

A manufacturer is the company that builds a manufactured home in a factory. For homes built on or after June 15, 1976, the manufacturer must construct the home to the federal HUD Code, the national construction and safety standard.
The manufacturer is distinct from the dealer that sells the home to the public and from the park owner that rents or sells the lot. The manufacturer is generally responsible for how the home is built and for any factory warranty on its construction, while transport, setup, and site issues usually involve other parties.
Knowing which party is the manufacturer matters when a question concerns how the home was built — for example, a construction defect — as opposed to how it was sold or installed. This is general information, not legal advice.
