A dealer, also called a retailer, is a business that sells manufactured homes to the public. Beyond the sale itself, a dealer often helps arrange related services — financing, transportation of the home to its site, and setup — sometimes bundling them into one transaction.
Dealers are typically licensed by the state, and their sales practices are regulated by state law and by federal consumer-protection rules. A dealer is distinct from the manufacturer, which builds the home, and from the community or park owner, which rents or sells the lot.
Because a dealer transaction can combine the home purchase, a chattel loan, and setup, it helps to understand which party is responsible for each piece. This is general information, not legal or financial advice.
